Vintage Afghan-Inspired Embroidered Maxi Dress S/M

An extraordinary vintage piece and a true celebration of colour, craftsmanship and bohemian design.

Inspired by traditional 1960s Afghan dresses, this incredible maxi features a beautifully spliced floral body in rich emerald green and cobalt blue, finished with an intricately embroidered hot-pink tapestry bib across the front. The combination of colour, embroidery and flowing proportions makes this one of those rare vintage dresses that feels every bit as special today as it would have decades ago.

The relaxed silhouette falls beautifully from the bust into a sweeping, tiered maxi skirt, giving the dress wonderful movement and an almost ethereal drape when worn. Long blouson sleeves add softness and volume, finished with contrasting blue cuffs and beautiful gold buttons.

The embroidered bib is the hero — richly textured with geometric embroidery in shades of pink, lilac and soft blue, giving the dress that unmistakable handcrafted, collected-over-time feel.

Unlined and designed to slip easily over the head. There are no composition or care labels remaining, however the fabric has the soft fluidity and drape of rayon.

Although tagged a vintage size 14, vintage sizing differs considerably from modern sizing. Based on the measurements, we recommend this piece for approximately an AU 8–10 / S–M, depending on your proportions and preferred fit. Please note the bust is the more fitted area of this dress, so we strongly recommend comparing the measurements with a similar garment you already own.

Condition

Very good vintage condition with gentle wear consistent with age. There are some very minor threads/slubs throughout the fabric and slight wash fade, but overall this beautiful piece presents wonderfully.
